The seed has germinated and is now sprouting

Over the next week I will be posting a number of short essays, case studies, real-world pictures and mock-design images up on this blog, as a promise to myself and to an environmental studies prof to collect and disseminate my research- and observation-based understandings of sustainable agriculture systems.

Topics I'll be bringing up include:

- That true and tangible food security for any individual human settlement boils down to: where do people get their food from, and how is it grown. And as follow-up: how does any given person or whole society define "farm" or "farming," and what are the implications for this.

- Agro-ecology: understanding that a "farm" is really just a human food producing "ecosystem," that all farms and agricultural landscapes are subjects to the same boundaries as natural ecosystems.

- Why everyone should care about those two points above if they don't already...

In bringing up these topics I'll be talking about the principles of permaculture, and sustainable agriculture in general.

And what good is theory without practicality; I'll give a few case studies of revolutionary (/very old and proven) farming systems - from research, and farms I've been on.

Thereafter, I will move onto the mock-design, the fun part. What would I do with 10 acres? Or a thousand acres for that matter? In fact, what if you made me Minster of Agriculture for Ontario?
